Nigerian power-house singer’s, Davido’s, new album has debuted on this week’s US Billboard 200. The ‘Fem’ singer’s new album is dubbed ”A Better Time”, which is his third studio album.
The Album debuted at #170 on the album chart and becomes the singer’s first-ever album to debut on the US Official chart. The ”A Better Time” album is a follow up to Davido’s second studio album known as ”A Good Time” that he unleashed last year, in 2019.
The 17-track ”A Better Time” album features a line-up of international artists such as Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Young Thug, Hitboy, Lil Baby, Sauti Sol, Nas, Mugeez and Sho Madjozi. The same album also features some Nigerian icons like Tiwa Savage, Mayorkun, C Kay and Bella Shmurda.
Talking about his ‘A Better Time’ album, the singer stated that regardless of all the happenings of 2020 (especially covid-19, obviously), he found hope of a better time.
“I won’t keep you any longer. This year we’ve been through crazy times. Real crazy times. And through it all, we’ve all had to look inwards to find our unique hopes of better times ahead. I found a few. In human form and creative form. I’m so glad I can finally share them with you. I present to you ‘A Better Time’, stated Davido.
After cancelling his musical tour back in March this year, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, Davido started recording this album.
“During A Good Time [last year’s album], I was in America most of the time talking to my producers over email and WhatsApp, but for A Better Time [this year’s album] I was in Nigeria, it was during the pandemic [COVID-19] I was on tour in America before but when it hit I had to cancel the whole tour and move back to Naija. There was nothing we could do [no clubs, no shows] so we stayed home and made music. For this new album, we call it a masterpiece because we really took our time with it,” Davido explained.
Meanwhile, Davido is not an offcomer to the Billboard charts. On the Top Thriller Global chart, Davido has had four entries. “FEM” off “A Better Time” album peaked at number 3 on September 26th this year and spent seven weeks on the chart.
His duet with Mayorkun dubbed “Betty Butter” also peaked at number two this year while another of him and Mayorkun still dubbed “The Best” peaked at number seven. His Nicki Minaj-abetted song known as “Holy Ground” also peaked at number 13.
