The African Movie Academy Awards 2019 nominees were announced in a glitzy ceremony in Lagos, Nigeria on October 27, 2019.

The Africa Movie Academy Awards, popularly known as AMAA and The AMA Awards, are presented annually to recognize excellence among professionals working in, or non-African professionals who have contributed to, the African film industry. First held in 2005, the awards are aimed at honouring and promoting excellence in the African movie industry as well as uniting the African continent through arts.

The 2019 shortlist was announced on September 18 with winners to be revealed in October.

The winners of the AMAA Awards for 2019 are;

  • Award For Best Film by an African-Born Director Living Abroad – Michael Anyiam Osigwe
  • Best Diaspora Short Film – Bail (UK)
  • Best Diaspora Documentary – My Friend Fela (Brazil)
  • Best Diaspora Narrative Feature – Hero (Trinidad and Tobago/Canada)
  • Best Achievement in Production Design – Redemption (Mozambique)
  • Best Achievement in Costume Design – Mercy of the Jungle (Rwanda)
  • Best Achievement in Make-Up – Mercy of the Jungle (Rwanda)
  • Best Achievement in Soundtrack – Mabata Bata (Mozambique)
  • Best Achievement in Visual Effects – The Delivery Boy (Nigeria)
  • NFVCB Award For Best Nigerian Film – King of Boys
  • Best Documentary – Khartoum Offside (Sudan)
  • Ousmane Sembene Award For Best Film in an African Language – Rafiki (Kenya)
  • Efere Ozako Award For Best Short Film – A Tune of Kora (Senegal)
  • Best Achievement in Sound – Mabata Bata (Mozambique)
  • Best Achievement in Cinematography – Sew the Winter to My Skin (South Africa)
  • Best Achievement in Editing – Rafiki (Kenya)
  • Best Achievement in Screenplay – Redemption (Mozambique)
  • Best Animation – Choices (Nigeria)
  • Best Young/Promising Actor – Cynthia Dankwa (Esi) The Burial of Kojo
  • Best Actor in a Supporting Role – Jarrid Geduld 9 (Abie) Ellen, The Ellen Parkies Story
  • Best Actress in a Supporting Role – Adesua Etomi (Kemi) The King of Boys
  • Best Actor in a Leading Role – Marc Zinga ( Mercy of the Jungle)
  • Best Actress in a Leading Role – Sola Sobowale (Eniola) King of Boys
  • Best Director-First Feature Film – Blitz Bazawule – The Burial of Kojo (Ghana)
