Kenya won three awards in this year’s edition of the All Africa Music Awards held on Sunday at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos, Nigeria.
Boy band Sauti Sol – who will this Friday host an invite-only event in Nairobi to launch their new album Live And Die In Afrika – scooped two awards. Producer of the Year (with Pacho Entertainment’s Cedric “Cedo” Kadenyi for the mega hit Sura Yako) and the Best African Group.
The third award went to M’vula after emerging tops in the Best Artist In African Rock category.
However, bongo’s finest Diamond Platnumz was the biggest winner, scooping three awards at the gala. He was named Artiste of the Year, Best Male Artiste in East Africa and Song of the Year for Nasema Nawe.
His compatriot Vanessa Mdee won the Best Artiste in African pop award. Other winners were Uganda’s Jose Chameleone (Songwriter of the Year in Africa).
The event, hosted by Kenya’s self-proclaimed Number One Hypeman DNG and Côte D’Ivoire’s actress and model Aurelle Eliam, included performances from Kenyan artistes Papa Dennis and Victoria Kimani.
