Apple has just formalized the iPhone SE 2020, its new entry-level iPhone that takes over from the first generation iPhone SE, 4 years after its commercialization. Visually, the smartphone presents an old design like Mathusalem. It sports huge borders on either side of its 4.7-inch screen and signals the return of the Touch ID fingerprint sensor.
Apple formalized the second-generation iPhone SE by press release this Wednesday, April 15, 2020. As the leaks announced in recent days, Apple has decided to keep the name of the first generation of the smartphone rather than the name iPhone 9, as it has been designated for a while. With this new proposal, Apple wants to play in the same court as its Android competitors in the smartphone segment for less than $544.
Those who wish to buy this new iPhone will nevertheless have to make several sacrifices. It displays a design that takes us almost three years back. Exit the edge-to-edge appearance introduced by the iPhone X and inherited by its successors. You will feel like you are holding an iPhone 8 since it has the same design.
iPhone SE 2020: the technical sheet
The second-generation iPhone SE is equipped with a compact 4.7-inch LCD display compared to the first-generation iPhone SE. The panel offers HD definition with True Tone technology which automatically adjusts the white balance based on ambient light to provide a more natural viewing experience. It is also compatible with Dolby Vision and HDR10.
The main advantage of the iPhone SE 2020 is its Apple A13 Bionic SoC, which puts it on an equal footing with the latest iPhone 11 and 11 Pro. Users will, therefore, have nothing to envy them on this aspect. Apple does not specify the amount of RAM of the new smartphone, but the leaks announced 3 GB of RAM.
As for the photo part, the new iPhone benefits from a unique 12 MP (f / 1.8) sensor in the back with the Portrait mode. In the table of new features, we can also mention its compatibility with WiFI 6, LTE connectivity Gigabit-class, wireless charging, but also with fast charging which allows it to recover 50% of autonomy in 30 minutes of charge.
For the biometrics part, the iPhone SE 2020 does not benefit from the easy recognition technology of the latest iPhones. The Touch ID fingerprint sensor is back and lets users take advantage of “advanced security” according to Apple.
iPhone SE 2020: as powerful as the iPhone 11 pro
Pre-orders will be open on Friday, April 17 from 2 p.m. for availability one week after, that is Friday, April 24, 2020. The iPhone SE will be on sale in 40 countries at the price of $530 for the version base offering 64 GB of storage. It’s $54 cheaper than the iPhone 8 when it launched. The smartphone will also be available in 128 GB versions at $586 and 256 GB versions at $717. Three colors are available: white, black and red.
