Historical Docu drama
Part 2: Tuesday 22nd May at 9pm
Using never before seen archived footage and actual transcripts from the time, this docudrama focuses on the Berlin Conference on Africa, chaired by Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, where after several months of negotiations amongst European and American diplomats, parts of Africa were divided up between themselves. No Africans were invited to the conference.
It was an agreement that would allow the Great Powers to colonise the continent, exploit its resources, and also resulted in the division of territory, the drawing of maps and the establishment of Congo as a personal possession of the Belgium King.
Berlin 1885: The Division of Africa combines previously unexplored archive materials, insights from historians and scholars from six nations and re-enactments of the Conference to bring to life a forgotten event that shaped the continent to what we see today.
